Clearing a Slow Drain

A slow-draining sink or shower is often caused by a buildup of hair, soap, or grease. Use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to break down the debris. Pour half a cup of baking soda followed by half a cup of vinegar into the drain, then flush with hot water after a few minutes. For stubborn clogs, a drain snake may be necessary.

Resetting a Tripped Garbage Disposal

If your garbage disposal stops working, it may have tripped its reset button. Turn off the power to the disposal, press the reset button located underneath, and test it again. If it still doesn’t work, use a hex key to manually rotate the blades and clear any obstructions.

Stopping a Running Toilet

A running toilet can often be fixed by adjusting the float or chain in the tank. Open the tank and check if the float is too high, causing water to overflow. Lower the float to the correct level, or adjust the chain connected to the flapper to ensure it’s not too tight or too loose.

Tightening a Loose Faucet Handle

A loose faucet handle can make turning the water on and off difficult. Tighten the screw underneath the handle using a screwdriver or hex key. If the problem persists, the handle’s internal components may need to be replaced.

Preventing Frozen Pipes

In colder months, frozen pipes can burst and cause extensive damage. Wrap exposed pipes in foam insulation or heat tape, and let faucets drip slightly during freezing weather to keep water flowing. Addressing this early can prevent costly repairs.
