Fixing a Dripping Faucet

A dripping faucet wastes water and increases utility bills. The problem is often due to a worn-out washer or O-ring. Start by turning off the water supply to the faucet. Disassemble the faucet handle, replace the faulty part, and reassemble the fixture. Turn the water back on and test to ensure the drip is gone.

Unclogging a Sink or Shower Drain

Clogged drains can be cleared with a plunger or a drain snake. For a natural solution, pour a mixture of baking soda and vinegar down the drain, followed by hot water after a few minutes. This method is effective for breaking down grease or soap buildup.

Repairing a Running Toilet

A running toilet is often caused by a faulty flapper or float. Turn off the water supply to the toilet and flush to empty the tank. Inspect the flapper for wear and replace it if necessary. Adjust the float to ensure it shuts off the water at the proper level.

Sealing Small Pipe Leaks

Small leaks in pipes can be temporarily fixed with plumber’s tape or a pipe clamp. Wrap the tape tightly around the leak or secure the clamp to stop water from escaping. While this is a short-term solution, it’s important to replace the damaged pipe section as soon as possible.

Clearing a Jammed Garbage Disposal

If your garbage disposal isn’t working, first turn it off and unplug it. Use an Allen wrench to manually rotate the blades from the underside of the unit to free any obstructions. Avoid putting fibrous or hard items like bones or coffee grounds into the disposal to prevent future jams.

Replacing a Showerhead

Upgrading or fixing a showerhead is a quick and easy task. Unscrew the old showerhead, clean the threads of the pipe, and wrap them with plumber’s tape. Screw on the new showerhead tightly and test for leaks.
